As HR Manager, I play a strategic role in ensuring that our policies, processes and practices closely relate to the needs of the overall organisation. I work across all departments to offer a range of support for areas such as recruitment, learning and development, compensation, benefits, employee engagement and employee relations. I love the variety of the work involved in my job and I genuinely care about the well-being and development of all TSR employees.
What's the most unique part of your role at The Student Room?
Working alongside our teams means that I get great insight into everyone's projects and progress. It's so important for people working in HR to fully understand the pressures and challenges that are faced across an organisation. This understanding then enables HR to offer the right level of support and to help bring about improvements at the right time, in the right way.
What do you find most exciting about working in the student & youth market?
Working in a constantly changing market is really exiting as there are always new opportunities to support students in different ways. There are so many big decisions to be made, and new things to be learnt, that its a really tricky time in people's lives. I think it's great that TSR is here as a fantastic place for support and up to date advice.
If you could give your student self one piece of advice what would it be?
“Fail to prepare, prepare to fail” was the advice given to me by one of my lecturers at University. I think he had a really good point! Being organised when it comes to studying will really help to make you feel confident when it comes to tackling coursework and exams. Getting involved with extra-curricular activities is also great thing to do, as you will not only have the chance to make new friends, but it will look good on your CV.
