A bit about Leah...

So what does your job actually involve? Tell us all about it!

As HR Manager for The Student Room, my job involves working across all departments to develop and improve staff welfare and performance. By focusing on the key elements of our employee life cycle, we insure that working at TSR is as fun and rewarding as possible! This starts at the very beginning with supporting managers to recruit super stars to join their teams, then making sure we provide them with a very warm welcome to the TSR team and our fantastic office! I help everyone to achieve their goals, reach their full potential and most of all to make sure they enjoy and have fun whilst doing so! I also look after company benefits, policies, payroll and general HR queries.

What's the most unique part of your role at The Student Room?

Working with all the TSR teams means I get great insight into everyone's projects and challenges! I love being able to celebrate all our hard work and achievement, especially when people have personally gained results and have developed in ways that they may not have expected!

What do you find most exciting about working in the student & youth market?

Working in a constantly changing market is really exiting as there are huge opportunities for development and creating new ways to support students! In our lives we are always learning new things, so it’s great to be able to help people to connect in order to support each other through the highs and lows of student life.

If you could give your student self one piece of advice what would it be?

“Fail to prepare, prepare to fail” was the advice given to me by one of my lecturers at Uni, and I think he had a really good point! Being organised and ready as much as you can possibly be will really help you feel confident when it comes to tackling stressful coursework and exams. Don’t forget to get involved with extra-curricular activities, as this is a great chance to make new friends and looks great on your CV when it comes to thinking about your future!
