So what does your job actually involve? Tell us all about it!
I have TSR Group level responsibility for www.markedbyteachers.com and am also the Operations Director for TSR Learning. This gives me a wide remit of responsibility working closely with the TSR Learning Marketing team and Product Development Director. A large part of my role is ensuring that the products we develop move from conception, through business requirements, in to development and then to successful launch. I ensure that the products are fit for release and get the right level of input from the wider TSR Learning team, making sure we always put our best foot forward. The second key part to my role (and really what I am most passionate about) is Conversion Optimisation. If you have never heard of this, then very briefly its the science behind helping people make the right decisions on-line to give them the best possible experience when using your site. Achieved through a combination of interpreting data (Analytics, surveys and various user testing techniques) fused with A/B testing to optimise user experience. I could spend all day talking about this so if you want to know more - drop me a line :)
What's the most unique part of your role at The Student Room?
Leading conversion optimisation within TSR Learning and sharing my passion and experience with the wider group I would say is my most unique role within The Student Room. Its a science that really works and if delivered and understood correctly, pays dividends both for the user and the company. My relationship with third party consultants both in CRO and SEO is also pretty unique and something I really enjoy as their knowledge and shared learnings provide me with a wider and more detailed understanding of both fields. I am also in charge of music in the office - a high pressure and demanding role, fusing playlists of dub-step and grime with 70's disco and 60's popular culture with a bit of psychcobilly seamlessly *ahem*!
What do you find most exciting about working in the student & youth market?
I think within the TSR Learning team, providing all students, no matter their background, with access to the best online learning tools and resources to help further their education and make them the best version of themselves is super exciting and challenging! In the wider company being part of a team that delivers such important information, helping students make lifes big decisions is really exciting and something I am proud to be part of.
If you could give your student self one piece of advice what would it be?
Concentrating and working hard at school is not a sign of weakness - fool! Take the opportunity with both hands and run with it - you are capable of great things with self belief and hard work. Don't squander it trying to be cool, smoking, drinking and showing off to girls (you only look like an idiot dude). Life is for living and if you really want to live it you are going to need to work hard and always do your best.
