Key takeaways:
- Influences on their top choice university included the feel of the campus, course entry requirements vs predicted grades and the teaching methodology.
- Information around student finance is in high demand. The rise in cost of living is a worry and with that, quality of life, so support around money management from universities is valued.
- Open days are really important in their decision making process. Virtual open days are useful and good to have the option of both virtual and on-campus due to travel costs, but still don't replace on-campus open days which enable them to get a feel for the environment.
- Information for those who do not qualify as WP but will still be independently funding themselves is key - students need the universities to meaningfully reach out to them and help them access the support on offer.
- Some of the main concerns about starting university were making new friends, mental health support and knowing what support the university offer and 'self-management' from living away from home for the first time.
